The Traveller's Guide to Love

Blackstaff Press 2015

This is the story of Johanna and Albert, who meet in a second-hand bookshop over a copy of The Traveller’s Guide to Ancient County Down, and discover a mutual passion for ancient places, and each other – and despite being old enough to know better, throw caution to the winds and set off on a journey of love and exploration.

Described by Blackstaff as a ‘warm, funny and uplifting story about second chances’ it was inspired by my desire to write something purely enjoyable, both for myself and for any potential readers, and by my own travels around the beautiful, hidden, ancient sites with which the Northern Ireland countryside is littered. One of the nicest things someone said to me after it was published was that it read like a love-letter to my adopted country.

I’ve been writing all my life but it took me until the age of 67 to get my second book published. I also got married for the second time. So I’m very much a late bloomer – which does make me feel a bit as though my last remaining petals are about to drop off – but better late than never!
